Arduino is a single board microcontroller program that was first developed in 2005 and began life as a student project at a cost of just $100. Arduino is used to make the use of interactive applications and other programs easier and much more accessible for users. Arduino allows users to upload a program onto a microcontroller without the need of a chip or another device. Arduino includes an array of tools and features and comes equipped with an open source hardware board that was based around an 8-bit Atmel AVR microcontroller.
The Arduino hardware boards can either be pre assembled or can be assembled manually by the user. The latter option is the cheaper option and it is also a popular prion for users that like to tinker with electronics and like to build things themselves. The do-it-yourself program comes with comprehensive information which can guide the user through the creation process and help them out if they get stuck at any point.
Despite starting life as a small student project, just a few years after it was first released, over 300.000 copies of Arduino had produced.
